This Author Profile present the life and work of Marshall McLuhan (1911 - 1980). Working as a “Pragmatic Synthesist”, McLuhan documented how technology filters our “Perceptions” of reality. He called these technology filters, “Media”, as well as “The Extensions of Man”. Additionally, working with his son, Eric McLuhan, he developed a “Method” called the “Tetrad” to analyze the impact of such “Media” filters on the development of our individual “Mind-Maps” that emulate reality to manage our embodied “Motions” through “Predictions”. In what ways does the “Mind-Map” of a reader differ from the ”Mind-Map” of a TV watcher, from the “Mind-Map” of a radio, or podcast listener, etc.? Our Shared Humanity hides a multitude of “Mind-Maps” made unique by one’s own history, as well as one’s choice of “Media” as the primary source of input for our emulation of reality. How distant must “Mind-Maps” become to have a Cool Hand Luke style “Failure to Communicate”?
